We may be interested in setting up a Network group
Submitted by tor on Sun, 27/01/2008 - 20:53.As we now have a number of Explorers that are/are going to be 18 or older - and we have some problems fitting more Explorers into the available space we may have to set up a Network unit.
Network are for 18 - 25 years old - and have some significant differences from Explorers and Scouts when it comes to the whole permission system. As 18 year olds are defined as adults by the Scout Association they can basically govern themselves and go whenever/wherever they want to go without going through the whole Scout permits system...

On Friday, the Eagles Explorers went to Frost Camp at Bentley Copse for a weekend away from home, to have fun and take part in the activities provided. The activities available ranged from Archery, Air-Rifle Shooting (prone and standing), the Games room (pool, computers etc) and many many more. I think the explorers enjoyed themselves! We had good weather - no rain during the day! - the food was good and there was good behaviour all round. There was only one moment of panic at the beginning of the camp where we found out we were missing poles for the Mess Tent, but we used our brains and well..did without the poles, which seemed to work.

How to tie a sheepshank
Submitted by tor on Sat, 01/05/2010 - 18:19.
Were you down at the archery range when your scoutmaster showed you how to tie a this handy knot? Wikihow shows you the moves.
The sheepshank is a useful knot for two purposes. It can be used to temporarily shorten a rope or it could be used to allow a rope with a damaged or frayed part to be still used (the damaged part would be in the center, where there is no tension). One of the properties of this knot is that it can get easily undone without tension, so to keep it in place, tension needs to be applied on both sides of the knot.

Frost Camp 2009
Submitted by tor on Sun, 18/01/2009 - 20:24.Frost Camp 2009 finished this morning - and last night was a memorable night for the explorers due to the combinations of a full gale, and a rather sub-standard Fiesta tent (bought on Ebay from the Jamboree in 2007(?)), which does not behave terribly well in high winds.
It rained very hard in the night as well - making most things muddy.
