MAKE Flickr photo pool member Tesla1000 has a ton of photos of experiments with high voltage - I like this photo of one of the experiments in the suburbs. Link.
Having a remote control pass data, via an Arduino and the serial port, can be a great addition to a lot of projects. This is not the most detailed of builds, but I think there is enough information there for anyone that is already tinkering with the Arduino. There is a link to the sketch code on the site if you want to give this project a try. - Link
I do love these projects from MAKE:, I am going to order this particular kit to teach myself more about microcontroller programming :
In this build I am going to be making the XPort shield that is available from LadyAda's web site. The shield will allow you to connect your Arduino to the Internet and check your email, interact with Twitter, send SMS messages, and a whole lot more.
Oh I do like this idea - I may have to get one of these, as where I work and live we apparently have to worlds highest concentration of CCTV cameras.

"Infrared Light Against Surveillance Cameras" is an easy to build device that protects you from cameras in public spaces. The focus is to amplify the interaction between "machines" (or light sources) that have been built as surveillance devices. This type of project always seems to re-emerge every few years. In a quiet neighbourhood in Canada my brother-in-law was surprised to hear a very loud “shot-like” sound, and ventured out into the street where he encountered one of the neighbours. He asked “Did you hear the bloody loud bang”. Whereupon the neighbour just shrugged her shoulders and replied “It's just one of those darned exploding squirrels again”.
Somehow our cats learned to drink from the faucet. We'd turn the water on for them, but they never turn it off when they were done! I'm sure there are other cat owners out there with a similar problem. So, I built the Cat Faucet so the cats could turn the water on and off for themselves. [From DIY: Cat Faucet controller]
