The O2 ADSL connection was delivered today - this is their unlimited account - which has a maximum download speed of 24 Mbit/s and upload of 1.6 Mbit/s.

We do (so far) not get quite that much - but not bad anyway :

Still faster than the old (Pipex) link which was 8 Mbit/s download and 448 kbit/s upload.

It seems to have restarted itself 17 hours or so ago - and the download speed has improved to 17 Mbit/s!

So now that I have received the MAC code from Pipex I decided to go with O2 as the new supplier - their customer and technical satsifaction seems to be on top of all surveys just now.

In addition to this 20 Mbit/s download and 1.6 Mbit/s upload is not too shabby either.

But I hit a small problem - as when I had finally entered all my details and pressed the Order button I got this message:

Fortunately I could log into the online account which I already had set up for my iPhone, and select "My Broadband" which gave me:

Curious to see what I'm getting out of my O2 ADSL line i used speedtest.net and got these results :

Interesting to see that they identify my line as a "Be" line - I know that O2 has bought them, but I was under the impression that they had separate kit so far...

So this matches quite well.

I'm happy!

We have been having problems with our Internet link, and a noisy phone line for a little bit of time.

Fortunately we use a ADSL router - which gives us s lot of diagnostic information, and sure enough it was not good :

The key is the S/N ratio - and the linespeed.

ADSL is a adaptive protocol, and the speed will vary according to how good your link is, and ours was quite bad.
