What happened to equality before the law in the UK

I'm a bit dismayed by the politicians on the news today - as one of the stories seems to be about the number of "foreigners" that are not sent "home" after serving sentences in UK prisons.

And as per usual this is one of this mindless TV discussions that only allow time for soundbites.

And the reason for my concerns :

- I am a foreigner living in the UK

- My home is in the UK

- I work in the UK - with all that this entails

But it seems that I will not be treated the same as a UK citizen if I commit a crime (which btw. I have no intention of doing). I am despairing a bit about this - UK wants to be part of europe, but on the other side not...
