We went out kayaking on the Wey again today - even though it was raining.

And I was impressed by the number of people we met on and alongside the river - also disregarding the rain.

There were kayakers, people in rowing boards, canoes, small boats with electric motors and in narrowboats.

We were out for almost 3 hours - a extremely peaceful setting, and it gave me some much needed exercise as well.

My new £8 wetshoes worked very well - better than my old sandals anyway.

Benjamin and I at long last went out for a sea-kayak trip while on holiday in Cornwall.

We went out from Port Quin - best described as a “safe and quiet” harbour - just the place to take a couple of newbies out for their first trip.

We were given 2 sit-on kayaks and off we went. Personally I had not expected to make it out of the cove the first day, but Andy was a lot more confident than the 2 of us, and we actually made it into a couple of hours trip along the Cornwall coast.

Benjamin and I are now seriously looking for kayaks to use on the local river, and to plan new sea-kayak trips!

Now that I'm keen on kayaking I have of course been looking at electronic solutions for navigation. And I do know that there are a number of solutions out there, especially for sea kayaking - but I'm thinking like this :

- If we go "real" seakayaking for the next year or so we will hire a guide, and "proper" sea-kayaks, so navigation will not be much of a problem.

- On a week-to-week basis we will be kayaking mainly on rivers and lakes, so maybe "normal" Landranger maps are more than good enough, so what about this device :

This is electronic and waterproof - their bikemount should be good enough to fasten it to a kayak, and it has all the LandRanger maps available?
