I seem to be among the lucky ones that have not had a overheating problem with my MacBook Air - but if I had this problem the following may look like a good solution :

Hm! I wonder of this has happened to me - as I occasionally have noticed that I do seem to get very high CPU load on only one core, and nothing on the other of long periods of time...

I seem to have hit a small problem with my wife's black MacBook - I am unable to upgrade the operating system/wireless card firmware to work with 802.11n.

I ran Apples 802.11n updater (which came with the new Airport Extreme base station) and it worked perfectly with my MacBook pro - as seen in Network Utility :

and in System Profiler :

But my wifes Black Macbook is not behaving. The installer runs ok - but in Network Utility

the adapter shows up as “802.11 a/b/g” - i.e. no “n”.

As my wife's superb black MacBook is one of the early ones, it does not support the newer wireless standard (802.11N - or Wireless-N among friends), and as we have a new Airport Extreme router this is a bit of a shame, as her backups take longer, and also slow down the whole wireless network.

So after looking at alternatives that do not involve taking the MacBook apart I went out and bought a D-Link DWA-140 USB stick that supports the correct standards, and that apparently had a OsX driver.

I started off by downloading the driver from the D-Link site - but got nowhere with it, so I went to the Railink site (the manufacturers of the stick) and found a different driver there which I installed. (link)

But this was not the end of getting it working, as it turns out you have to activate it under the "normal" System Preferences panel

This particular tablet mac seems to be approved by Apple (!?) - something that should make it stand out from the pack L
