Slim Devices have been making opensource MP3 software and non-transportable players for connecting to a standard stereo for several years now, and I have earlier blogged their announcement of a high-end player, called Transporter.

The reviewer seems to have done a reasonably detailed job, and his conclusions are really that the device is very, very good.

So now - can I afford one??

We went out yesterday to look at computers for one of our neighbours, and in the sale we found a extremely inexpensive LCD TV, so we bought it.

I'm sitting on the deck in the garden listening to music from the stereo, which is controlled by a different Mac - s0 iTRC is a godsend for my wireless remote control needs.

This lantern from freeplay caught my eye as the ideal emergency tool for the car - as 60 seconds of cranking the handle gives you up to 2 hours worth of light!! And the built-in rechargeable battery can be charged by “normal” means as well.

At long last I got to try the JetBoil system I got for Christmas - this morning I served hot Chocolate to a group of tired Explorers (see more about this elsewhere), and decided to just bring milk and chocolate instead of making it at home and bringing it in flasks.

And the JetBoil worked perfectly - it heated litres of milk quicker than the Explorers consumed it.

So I would really recommend this extremely compact cooking system (the gas canister and the burner unit unscrews from the “cup” (and can be stored inside it), and is really easily transported.
