One of the things we have really wanted to see in Guildford is a decent Japanese restaurant and sushi-bar.

A couple of weeks ago Fennel opened - and when we was mulling over going out for a late'ish lunch today we remembered it, and so off we went.

At around 14:00 (it is a Saturday after all) we walked in the doors of Fennel - and discovered that even though the restaurant was closed, the sushi bar was open for business.

There were few other guests there - and we were the only ones choosing to sit at the bar, a very good choice as it turned out.

All ingredients were on display in their chilled glass cases inlaid into the bar itself, and of excellent quality as well. We decided to forego choice for one of their selection menus, and a salmons bento box.

Our excellent and Moroccan chef who let us taste his newest creation of Snow Crab and scallops (really good) was chatty and a excellent chef.

Ali's bento box = bot set of "dishes" surprised us by the quantity (and quality) of the food.

So all in all we will be coming back - this was really good!
