I have been looking for a electricity meter I could connect to a computer for some time now - and then I came across a number of stories on the Currentcost device. This device has a serial output of it's data - and at long last I found their wiki with information on how to interface this to a computer - and even better - to a Arduino!

I just saw a interview with Jackie Smith on BBC News - talking about knife crime.

And to sum up what really makes me see british politicians in a bad light was her statement that "I and Jack Straw and ..... has written the proposal". This is so wrong - and so typical for todays politicians, they have of course used their quite considerable resources in the public service to do all of this, but nowhere is this acknowledged, it is all about themselves!

We have a Gaggia bean-to-cup coffee machine - so this particular article about modding a Gaggia Espresso machine with a Arduino controller really caught my eye:

The goal of this project is to create a computer interface for my Gaggia Espresso machine replacing the factory thermal switches with a PID controller and the “steam” and “pump” toggle switches with a LCD/button menu system.

Motivation

After seeing the various instructions and kits geared toward modding a home espresso machine with a PID, and their costs and features compared to something like the PID PIC MOD, I decided I would start from scratch and build my own PID. Then I could easily extend it to control the rest of the espresso machine, such as adding a timer to monitor or control the shot time and adding temperature presets.
