Ipod problems - won't show up

The Gizzer's Ipod refused to do much of anything tonight, and even disk utility refused to acknowledge it. So I had to find out how to do a hard reset - and here it is:

iPod hard reset

If your iPod won't mount on your computer's desktop and can't be soft restored, you need to hard reset. Follow these steps to mount the iPod:

Connect the iPod to a built-in FireWire port on your computer (it won't work with an unpowered FireWire port on a PC Card, for example).
Reset the iPod by pressing the Play and Menu buttons for 10 seconds.
When you see the Apple logo, press and hold the Previous and Next buttons for 10 seconds.
The FireWire icon should appear in your iPod's display.

Re: iPod hard reset
From Tor's weblog: His sons iPod had the problem that it would not be recognized by the Mac. Tor mentions the hard reset procedure that brought the connection back again. So here are my own experiences.

Hi. I am having a problem with my 20GB iPod, i plug it into the computer, load music using iTunes and on the screen the music appears to have loaded onto my iPod and everything is fine, i can even play the music through the iPod. however, as soon as i remove the iPod from the computer, the music i have loaded is gone, and there is no evidence of me loading any new music at all onto it. so i haven't been able to load music for about a month now. Anyone have any solutions or suggestions?

I'm pretty sure that your problem is a permission problem on the iPod, it seems like it is somehow write protected. I would reformat it by using the iPod updater and reload all my music.

If this does not help - send me a email.
Btw. - are you using a PC or a Mac?

Regards
Tor

All of a sudden the Ipod did not recognize the new songs that I uploaded. I then restored the IPOD from itunes and it still dosen't recognize the new music. The "do not disconnect" and bulls eye symbol NEVER dissapears now, even while letting it stay connected all night. I have Windows...What do I do next? Ipods suck.
It's always one problem after another with the stupid thing.

Accessories included.

I've bought two car chargers for my Ipod. They last about two months and cost $45.

I bought the Ipod for about $350 and the dumb thing never works. It will update my songs and then just shuts off. It won't charge anymore than the time it takes to upload the songs. I don't have another $45 to spend on another charger.

I like how they wanted to make their boxes look so nice and small and tiny, so they don't include the wall charger.

Again I say -- Ipods suck.
Find something else to waste your hundreds on...

Okay, I've had my 1G iPod Nano since
December 2005. It's worked fine up until
now, and has never had any unusual problems.
But today I was listening to it, while it
was fully charged, and it suddenly gave
me the low battery (low battery image with
an exclaimation point in a triangle) icon
on the screen. I was weirded out b/c this
has never happened before, so I immediately
went to go charge it. My dock/radio wouldn't
recognize it, so I plugged it into the USB
port on my computer. Nothing. It didn't
even recognize that I had plugged anything
in. I tried soft and hard resetting it,
I've tried turning hold on and off, I've
tried turning it ON, I've tried charging
it for over an hour, and NOTHING is
happening. I've never abused it in any
way, so I am genuinely confused. Can
anyone help me? The screen is totally
blank, like it's not plugged in at ALL.
HELP!

I got an ipod nano for my birthday. I've had an ipod shuffle before where you could just plug it into the computer and ta-da, but the nano seems more complicated. See, I connect it to my computer, but nothing happens. The setup assistant doesn't pop up, and nothing happens at all. The screen on my ipod goes dark and i can barely see the words 'do not disconnect' on there. Nothing happens on my computer screen though. The nano can charge, but i can't put music on the ipod. I've got a 30GB video ipod and I've had no problems with it so far. However, I am currently abroad and have been downloading podcasts on to the itunes on this pc, and manually managing my ipod so I can get some new things on it. However, the podcasts which I download, when copied to the ipod, do not show up under 'podcasts', but only in 'music'. I want to delete a load now that I've listened to them, but if I open iTunes they don't show up under either 'podcasts' or 'music', and won't come up if I search them. The only place that iTunes shows them is in the 'Recently Added' playlist from the ipod, but I can't delete files from there.
Can someone help?
Many thanks.

ok, I have a 30GB iPod video. Recently for no apparent reason the iPod has stopped working. Up until now it had worked fine, what is happening is, my iPod won't turn on. I hook it up to the outlet charger I have and it will work perfectly fine as long as it is attached, as soon as I remove the usb cable it turns off and will not turn on. Now when I plug it into the usb port on my computer the message "battery too low please wait a moment" comes up but it never connects to my computer. I have 11 GB of documents stored on my iPod I NEED to get off of it yet it won't connect to my computer. It just turns on when connected to the outlet charger and will not not turn on without being plugged into the outlet charger. Is there a way for me to get the files off my iPod I need to get?

Hellllpppp me :'(

Two things i need help with :(

1. Is there any way around the credit card on Itunes? So far i have contacted them 3 times and they ignore me. I only have an itunes giftcard and no credit card, so I can't purchase anything. (I am in the US and the US edition is very different from the UK and Aus ones. I am told they can bypass the credit card area).

2. About half the albums I have on my Ipod can't have pics. I loaded pics, different size, photo everything and no photos show up. Is this Ipod faulty? This happens over and over with the same albums.

This is my first Ipod and I thought, what's all the hype? It takes forever to load songs on them and the naming area in the Itunes is annoying because the song plays when you try to give it the correct name.
I would grade Classic Ipods (which I have) a C-. Bleh.

Info: Ipod 80 GB Classic.

Thanks.

Ok. My ipod nano 4g randomly stopped working on day as i was listening to it, and then told me to go to www.ipod.apple.com/support. Instead i tried restoring it, and it worked! Now heres where things get weird; Afteri unplugged it, all of my videos would show up fuzzy with no picture quality what so ever. So then i try to restore it again, and it then gives me an error message 1418. I then proceed to follow the instructions form apple to fix problem 1418, until i run into a MAJOR problem. When i connect my ipod to the usb, it does not open itunes nor give me a option for my ipod on the left hand side of the itunes menu where it has always been. Becuase of this, i can not get to a restore option or anything, my ipod simply does not show up on my computre. If anyone has advice on this please tell me, i would be appreciative
