This site has a good (and very long) writeup on Sandvox – so follow the link

Sandvox:

Sandvox is a new and mostly non-technical graphical web site generator for the Mac. It has been released now – after a long planning phase and a beta phase that seemed eternal for those who watched it and were eager to get their hands on the finished product. So despite the application only having been released for a few days, I can write enought about it to justify having a table of contents up front.

This robot-kit looks just fantastic – and it works with Mac’s as well! Hm – I can feel a birthday present coming up!

Surveyor SRV-1 Mobile Robotic Webcam:

Designed for research, education, and exploration, Surveyor’s SRV-1 internet-controlled robot integrates a 60MIPS ARM7TDMI 32-bit processor, a digital video camera with resolution from 80×64 to 640×480 pixels, infrared sensors, and Zigbee 802.15.4 wireless communications on a dual-motor tracked mobile robotic base, to explore, discover and report back to home. Operated as a remotely-controlled webcam or a self-navigating autonomous robot, the SRV-1 can be run from a Windows, Mac OS/X or Linux base station, and multiple SRV-1’s can be controlled by a single base station. A starter kit, including one SRV-1 robot, base station radio, battery charger and all software costs $375.

Read this – and then think about the population of Norway (around 4 million all in all)

nicarthurson / Norwegian Oil Fund:

Norwegian Oil Fund

The Norwegian Pension Fund-Global, formerly called the oil fund, now stands at some 1.48 trillion kroner / US$243 billion /euro 190 billion. It grew by 85 billion kroner in the last month alone. This fund is intended to aid future generations of Norwegians, generations who might not have the financial benefit of oil.

I just read the following about traffic at Wikipedia:

Scaling talks at mysql users conference:

Site handles now (it rises quite fast) over 12000 HTTP requests per second (out of which around 4000 are pageviews), on a cluster that could be built with ~500k$. At one talk in UC it was told that our platform isn’t very good. Sorry, with few volunteers working on that, we have to choose priorities for development. And it is a pity, that most of scaling management software is usually closed asset of the big players. Um, I’d love it to be open, really, pretty pretty please!

This is quite decent levels of traffic!

Ok – I admit this is very difficult to see, in the middle of the picture (click to see a larger version) is a hawk (at the very least a big hunting bird) used inside Hays Galleria to get rid of pigeons etc.

This is just too good to not post – a extremely enterprising young man decided that as Apple was doing a tine-lapse movie of the opening of their New York flagship store one the web, he might just as well use it to propose to his girlfriend!

This is a interesting departure from their roots – as Amazon now offers online storage at decent prices – and they even support multiple platforms through the use of WebDAV.

JungleDisk – Reliable online storage powered by Amazon S3™:

Amazon S3™ provides a set of web services for web-scale, fast, reliable storage. They store your data in multiple data centers around the country for complete redundancy.

Jungle Disk runs on your local machine as a WebDAV server. WebDAV is a protocol for remote file access supported by all modern operating systems.

As you copy data to your Jungle Disk, it is transparently cached, encrypted, and uploaded to Amazon.com. Since uploads occur in the background, copying files to your Jungle Disk is as fast as a local hard drive.

When you browse your Jungle Disk, if the data is already available in the local cache nothing is downloaded from Amazon, which makes Jungle Disk super efficie

Artic sea not carabean…

Towering mountains with pointed peaks, white beaches with clear water and a sea steaming with fish, midnight sun… The Lofoten Islands are definitely the scenic Norway at its best!

We went there last week with Anne-Sophie, for a 6 days trip along the coast. Now we can let you enjoy the pictures… That is for sure the place to see in Norway.
